Why are DVD players coded ?
Most DVD players are assigned a code to the specific region in which they are sold - This coding is generally pushed on the DVD player manufacturers by the film makers. The reason for the coding is as follows : New film releases are usually staggered across the world ie. at a certain time the UK may just have a film released in the cinema but in America it may have been released 6 months ago and is already on DVD. Therefore in this example the producers of the film do not want UK consumers to watch it before it’s finished screening at the cinema.
